Scaldis Salvage & Marine Contractors NV of Antwerp performed the contract for the removal and disposal of the K10-B platform operated by Wintershall Noordzee B.V.
The K10-B platform consisted of two 6 piled jackets supporting a wellhead platform and a production platform connected by a bridge. The structures, including the piles to 6m below seabed level, were removed in large sections during spring/summer 2014 by the heavy lift vessel Rambiz.
In 2013, Scaldis performed preparation works to facilitate the planned lifting operations. These included the provision of access, the inspection of existing facilities and the installation of new lifting points.
The dismantled components were delivered to a specialist facility in the Netherlands where they were cut up and disposed as useful scrap.
The removal and disposal of the K10-B structures is a further demonstration of how Scaldis provides efficient and economical end-of-life solutions for such offshore facilities.
